Your First Visit
Welcome to The Pediatric Dental Team, where your child’s optimal oral health is one of our primary goals. This page outlines what you can expect on your first visit to our office as a new patient. We provide dental services for children of all ages up to adulthood. In keeping with the guidelines set forth by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), The American Dental Association (ADA) and The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), our office recommends all children see a pediatric dentist by their first birthday.
The atmosphere here at The Pediatric Dental Team is kid-friendly and conducive to a pleasant dental experience. We ask that you help us maintain that environment by being positive about your child’s visit. Please refrain from using negative words such as “hurt,” “pain,” “drill” and “shot.” We realize that parents and guardians may have had unpleasant dental experiences of their own in the past; however, we strive to create a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere for children. We encourage you not to tell your children about your bad experiences. In fact, you need not tell your child anything before going to the dentist.
The professionals at The Pediatric Dental Team enjoy taking the time to get to know both you and your child. We also invite you to ask any questions regarding your child’s oral health. We realize there may be many answers you may need about oral development at various stages of a child’s life. We provide information and education around a variety of dental issues that will help you in maintaining your child’s best oral health.
During this visit, we will look at your child’s health history. We may ask questions regarding your child’s oral health. The dentist will examine your child’s teeth, and the hygienist will thoroughly clean them. Depending on the patient’s age, we may take digital x-rays. After the oral examination, the dentist will consult with you on the findings and make recommendations.
